aldwyth

attended the opening of aldwyth last friday. one word...amazing.

"This is the first major solo exhibition of Aldwyth, a collage and assemblage artist who stands on the edge of the art world. She paces around its perimeter, taking measure of its mass and scale. She dare not dip in her toe for fear that it may consume her, yet her preoccupation with its magnificence cannot be quenched. To understand the machinations therein, she makes lists—and lists of lists. She asks questions. Who is in the history of art? Who is left out—and why? She collects images of artists' eyeballs, the better to see them with."

"Now in her seventies, Aldwyth lives and works in an octagonal house at the edge of a salt marsh on one of South Carolina's sea islands. For several decades, she has been producing important work in relative seclusion from the larger art world. Her assemblages are responses to the physical landscapes in which she has positioned herself—be it a hurricane-strewn island or a craggy meadow in the Colorado Rockies. The artist utilizes the history of art and ideas as the catalyst for complex, often epic-scaled collages that resemble medieval manuscript pages writ large. Despite her avoidance of crowds and cities, she devours information and images available to her from a variety of sources—art magazines, libraries, bookstores, the Internet. She is a voracious reader and inveterate collector of detritus. All of the objects and images that enter her purview become fair game, served up as the raw material from which her works are made."

the rules in life...

when i think about the way i live my life, there are certain "rules" and life lessons that i have been taught.

write thank you notes
never, under any circumstance wear leggings
be gracious
when it comes to money, balance your checkbook and make spreadsheets
never let friends leave the bar alone
everything is better in high heels
listen to your parents
don't touch/pick at/rub/squish your face
buy local
know the kind of man you deserve and do not settle for less
swiffering does not equal cleaning
say i love you

these rules, regardless of their importance, build our character and make us who we are

so when i saw the blog " 1001 rules for my unborn son" i spent hours laughing, nodding and tearing up....

here are a few of my favorites (and ones i wish all boys were taught)...

#22: girls like boys who shower
#48: in the long run, loyalty trumps ambition every time
#99: nothing good ever happens after 3;00 am. i promise
#127: know her dress size, dont ask.
#158: the best thing to do in the rain is be quiet and listen
#187: smile at pretty girls
#219: if you make a mistake, forgive yourself and move on
#245: look people in the eye when you thank them, especially waiters
#273: catch and release
#331: be subtle. she sees you
#388: if you dont know what a knob does, dont fool with it

and the best part is that the blog is becoming a book...

"1001 rules for my unborn son" by walter lamond is due out @ the end of the month. great gift. great inspiration to make your own...

goldie

so i was watching rachel zoe be teeny on qvc this weekend (it was storming and there was literally nothing on t.v...it was "bananas"...don't judge)

anyway, i saw this necklace (but in gold) for $79...

and it looked a lot like this $229 kenneth jay lane necklace i saw on net a porter...

i'm all for getting stylish items @ bargain prices but for as much as ms. zoe loves to talk about her jewelry, you'd think she would design original pieces or pieces that show off her styling skills...

instead, can we say knock off?
